Structural steel work had very often been subcontracted by Fitzroy, preferring to concentrate on the vessel, piping and processing work we were so well known for. However there is considerable demand for structural steel in New Zealand driven initially by the post-earthquake rebuild of Christchurch and now also by the general buoyancy in commercial development in Wellington and Auckland. Accordingly Fitzroy have augmented its fabrication and project delivery process and now boasts a considerable structural steel production capability which has proven attractive to many construction companies in New Zealand.
As a further advancement Fitzroy has recently added an ultra-modern automatic CNC Drilling and Thermal Coping line from Italy which provides steel cutting, drilling and milling capacity of up to 40 tonnes per day. With the ability to provide blasting and protective coatings (including fireproofing, intumescent) of up to 400m² day through the onsite facility and a large team of steel erection personnel Fitzroy are a significant structural steel fabricator and erection provider.
Fitzroy also boasts perhaps the largest scaffolding and rigging organisation in New Zealand with 90 personnel and over 7000 tonnes of equipment. The ability now to CNC cut, fabricate, paint, scaffold and erect, Fitzroy Engineering is a major provider of structural steel for commercial and industrial applications in New Zealand and has a fast developing track record of success. Recent projects include the fabrication and erection of 1300 tonnes for Leighs Construction at Cashel St in Christchurch, fabrication and erection of 1000 tonnes for Hawkins at Aranui Community School in Christchurch, logistics management and erection of 6000 tonnes for CPB Contractors at Christchurch Hospital ASB and several seismic upgrades in Wellington and Taranaki. We have secured new projects in Wellington and have a comprehensive list of tender opportunities currently in progress.
